They helped me find my way around town and suggested places to travel (which is very cheap and easy to do in Ecuador).
I stayed with Sonia Goercke and was able to attend a family baptism, allowing me to take in the culture and feel like a Cuencano. We made friends with the residents and students involved with the foundation and they were some of the most welcoming people I have ever met in my travels.
Working with Dr Rodas on the mobile surgery unit is an awe-inspiring testament to the power of personal ambition and dedication. He discovered a need and delivered it to the community by breaking down the barriers of western medicine and taking the OR to the patient. We worked hard and long hours, but I was able to experience a diverse and exciting country with wonderful new Ecuadorian friends along the way.
